A member of the Canterbury Tennis Club for over 35 years, Chris Thomson has received a Tennis Victoria Highly Commended Tennis Service Award for his outstanding contribution and effort over a long period of time.

The award aims to recognise volunteers for their outstanding and exemplary service to the sport, with only a select number presented each year.

Chris has held a number of positions over his time at the Canterbury Tennis Club, spending 25 years on the committee, as well as two separate stints as club president. Between 1997 and 2009, Chris was the Junior Convenor, where he increased the amount of junior teams from eight to 20. As the Canterbury Tennis Club only had four courts available for use, Chris sourced extra venues so all matches could be completed.

As Team Manager of the Eastern Region Tennis Association, Chris helped run the Tennis Victoria Metropolitan and Regional Team Events, as well as assisting with the Eastern Region Tennis Association’s Annual Tournament.

Described as the ‘go to’ person at the Canterbury Tennis Club if something needs to be fixed or completed, Chris is a worthy recipient of the Tennis Victoria Highly Commended Tennis Service Award for his outstanding contribution to his club and the sport.

The Highly Commended Service Award recognises those who have demonstrated their contribution to the sport of tennis through outstanding and exemplary service to any one or more of Tennis Victoria’s affiliated tennis clubs and/or associations and/or member organisations. Service to other tennis related bodies may also be recognised.
