The Association Junior Pennant (AJP) 2025/26 season has launched with great energy and enthusiasm, marking a promising start for junior representative team tennis. While the new season dates were introduced with hopes of improved weather conditions, several matches have unfortunately been impacted by washouts. Nevertheless, the overall response to the season changes has been overwhelmingly positive.

This year’s competition boasts an impressive 88 teams across various age groups, reflecting strong participation and growth in junior tennis. The breakdown includes:

  • 16 teams in 12/U Boys
  • 9 teams in 12/U Girls
  • 20 teams in 14/U Boys
  • 12 teams in 14/U Girls
  • 18 teams in Junior Open Boys
  • 14 teams in Junior Open Girls

One of the most encouraging developments has been the noticeable increase in the average UTR (Universal Tennis Rating) across most age groups, indicating a rise in competitive standards and player development.

A highlight of the early season was the Blockbuster Round for the 12/U Boys and Girls, held on Sunday 9 November at the Glen Waverley Sports Hub. The event featured three morning matches and eight in the afternoon, with players and spectators enjoying a full day of tennis under unexpectedly favourable weather conditions.

Adding to the excitement, former top 50 professional Milly Huss delivered an inspiring talk to players and parents. Her insights into the highs and lows of a tennis career resonated deeply with attendees, offering valuable lessons for navigating the often complex journey of junior tennis. The session was complemented by catering for players, making it a well-rounded and memorable experience.

Looking ahead, the 14/U age groups are set to enjoy their own Blockbuster Round in February, promising another showcase of representative team tennis.

With strong participation, rising performance levels, and engaging events, the AJP 25/26 season is shaping up to be one of the most successful yet.
