The quarterfinals are set at the Apis Canberra International after some epic matches on Thursday which saw play finish well into the night.

In the women’s draw, several seeds fell including top seed Arina Rodionova (Vic) who out in three to former champion Risa Ozaki (JPN).  Third seed Priscilla Hon (Qld) was upset by fellow Aussie Zoe Hives (Vic), while qualifier Irina Ramialison (FRA) won her fifth consecutive match in the capital to defeat sixth seed Ellen Perez (NSW).

Fourth seed Olivia Rogowska (Vic) is the only seed remaining in the draw and will face Ramialson for a place in the semifinals.  Kaylah McPhee (Qld) will take on fellow Aussie Isabelle Wallace after she ended the hopes of Lizette Cabrera (Qld).  Astra Sharma (WA) will take on Ozaki, while Hives is set to face Naiktha Bains (Qld) in the quarterfinals.

In the men’s singles Jordan Thompson (NSW) won in straight sets and will now face Blake Ellis (Qld) who came through an epic three set match against Luke Saville (SA) in the second round.  Spain’s Nicola Kuhn had a comfortable win over Max Purcell, and will take on Akira Santillan (Qld) who eliminated 2016 champion James Duckworth (NSW)  in three sets.

Japanese second seed Yoshihito Nishioka will take on countryman Yosuke Watanuki, and Aussie wildcard Jacob Grills will play Maxine Janvier (FRA)

Play is set to commence at 10am with free entry to the Canberra Tennis Centre.

Part of The Australian Pro Tour, the next generation of top tennis players are competing at the Apis Canberra International, a USD$75,000 ATP Challenger event and a USD$60,000 ITF Women’s event being held at the Canberra Tennis Centre from October 27 – November 4.
