Tennis ACT have launched the 2018 Apis Canberra International at the Canberra Tennis Centre today. Part of The Australian Pro Tour, the next generation of top tennis players are set to compete when the Apis Canberra International kicks off in Canberra from October 27 – November 4 with a USD$75,000 ATP Challenger event and a USD$60,000 ITF Women’s event.

Players from the world’s top 200, and a crop of rising tennis stars from Australia and across the globe, will compete for significant prize money and valuable world ranking points, as they look to boost their rankings ahead of the Australian Summer of Tennis.

This year is shaping up to be bigger than ever, with Tennis ACT today announcing an increase in seating capacity, reserved seating and the introduction of an exclusive corporate hospitality area.

Tennis ACT CEO, Kim Kachel states “The Apis Canberra International returns for a fourth year to the world class Canberra Tennis Centre.   Last year 111 players participated in the tournament from 19 countries. We are excited to once more welcome Australian champions and future international stars of the sport”.

Kachel continues “This year’s event promises to be even bigger and better including a larger Kids Tennis Day to be held on Saturday 3 November. Last year’s Kids Tennis Day saw over 2,000 people on site with 100 free tennis racquets given away in seven minutes.  We look forward to seeing the vibrant crowds and international fan bases from across the ACT and region once more out in force.”

In 2017 the event saw 11,976 people through the gates over the nine day tournament, making it an iconic Canberra event. Naming rights partner Anthony Honeyman from the Apis Group said the community element plays a key role in the event.

“Apis Group is part of the Canberra community, and it is great to have international events in the nation’s capital. As Canberra’s most successful professional services firm we are very proud to continue to support events of this nature and are excited to see some of the best players in the world compete in our home town of Canberra.

The Apis Group are excited to partner with Menlink in 2018, and will raise much needed funds for this charity at the Kids Day, Saturday 3 November”, Honeyman added.

Canberra’s highest ranked female Alison Bai will return to the event which saw her make a memorable run to the semifinals in 2017.  The world No.353 is looking forward to playing at home in Canberra, ”I am excited to play in my home town, it’s a great opportunity to showcase Canberra to the instate and international players.  The Apis Canberra International always has great crowds, and I love having my family and friends at the event and exposing tennis to the Canberra community”.
