German doubles third seeds Jan-Lennard Struff and Andre Begemann have won the East Hotel Canberra Challenger 2017 Doubles final round.

The duo defeated unseeded Argentinian pair Carlos Berlocq and Andres Molteni 6-3, 6-4 just moments before strong winds and rain threatened to suspend play.

“It was definitely tough to play today, you can’t really practice playing in these conditions,” said Begemann.

“Coming from Germany, it’s tough to even practice in warm conditions. It’s about staying mentally tough, being patient.

“You know you’re not going to play your best tennis, so in the end I think it’s more the mental [aspect].”

Despite the less than ideal conditions, the pair have enjoyed their time in Canberra.

“It feels like everyone is on vacation,” said Begemann. “It’s amazingly quiet, and amazingly peaceful, and amazingly nice people. They welcomed us, and we had a good time.”

While Begemann can now spend some time relaxing, Struff will play Israeli [8] Dudi Sela in the singles final tomorrow at 11am.

“[I’m] really looking forward [to it],” Struff said. “I’ve played him twice, two years ago [at the] Australian Open, so [I’m] really looking forward to the match.”

While this is only the second event the duo have played together, they are looking forward to the possibility of continuing as a team.

“I really like to play with Andre,” Struff said. “I hope we play many more times together [but] we will see.”
