Canberra’s own Alison Bai will step onto Centre Court for the women’s doubles final on Day 9 of the Apis Canberra International, along with partner Lizette Cabrera (QLD).

Bai and Cabrera will play second seeds Jessica Moore (WA) and Storm Sanders (QLD) in the doubles decider, having dispatched the top seeds Arina Rodionova (VIC) and Asia Muhammad (USA) in a tense semi-final clash, 6-3, 3-6, 10-2.

The men’s doubles final will also feature all-Australian line up, with top seeds Matt Reid (NSW) and John-Patrick Smith (QLD) facing second seeds Luke Saville (SA) and Jordan Thompson (NSW).

Victorian Omar Jasika has stormed into the men’s singles semi-finals, achieving his best ever ATP Challenger Tour result.  Jasika, the 2014 US Open Junior champion, has reached three ATP Challenger Tour quarter-finals without managing to progress any further. Today, he easily accounted for qualifier Greg Jones (NSW) 6-3, 6-1 in just 74 minutes. Jasika will meet ninth seed and four time ITF Pro Circuits champion Marc Polmans in tomorrow’s semi-finals.

Top seed Jordan Thompson (NSW) continued his three week ATP Challenger Tour unbeaten streak with a straight sets victory over Queenslander John-Patrick Smith 6-1 7-6(5).  In the last quarter final result for the day, James Duckworth streamed through, eliminating the last international player remaining in the men’s draw, qualifier Daniel Masur (GER), 6-1, 6-4.

In the women’s draw, two Australians started the day, but were unable to progress to the semi-finals.  Fifth seed Victorian Arina Rodionova went down to top seed Risa Ozaki from Japan 6-4, 6-3 and Tammi Patterson (VIC) was eliminated by Italian qualifier Georgia Brescia 6-1, 6-2.

Ozaki, winner of last week’s Bendigo International, will meet Jennifer Elie from the United States in the semi-finals after Elie eliminated sixth seed and 2015 Canberra International finalist, Eri Hozumi from Japan 7-5, 6-3.  Brescia will take on seventh seed Jana Fett tomorrow after she eliminated Yuuki Tanaka (JPN) 6-2, 6-1.

On Day 9, play gets underway at 11:00am with the singles semi-finals. Two men’s and two women’s matches will determine the finals for Sunday. The men’s matches will take place on Centre Court and Court 5 will host the women’s matches.

In addition to all the action on court, there will be activities for the whole family including face painting, a jumping castle and speed-serve activities.

Gates open at 10am, with public entry by gold coin donation.
