The strength of the Australian men’s contingent at the Apis Canberra International is on full display at tomorrow’s quarter-finals with seven out of eight spots going to Aussies.

Jordan Thompson (NSW), James Duckworth (NSW) and John-Patrick Smith (QLD) are the latest to progress through to the quarter-finals after a successful Day 6.

Thompson easily accounted for Matthew Ebden (WA), only dropping two games in a 6-0, 6-2 walkover.

Top seed Thompson will tomorrow face eighth seed John-Patrick Smith, who also played out a reasonably one-sided second-round clash with Vijay Prashanth (IND), taking just under an hour to cruise to a 6-1, 6-2 win.

Continuing the run of straight sets victories in the second-round, fifth seed Duckworth notched up a 6-3, 6-3 straight sets win against Sumit Nagal (IND).

In the final men’s singles match of Day 6, Daniel Masur (GER) knocked out Maverick Banes (QLD) 7-6(2), 6-3 after pushing the first set to two tie-breaks.

Masur will be the sole international through to the quarter-finals when he meets Duckworth on Day 7.

In the women’s competition, two Australians remain after the second round, fifth seed Arina Rodionova (VIC) and Tammi Patterson (VIC) are left to fly the flag.

Rodionova took almost an hour and a half to finish off the competition hopes of Queensland teen Olivia Tjandramulia 6-2, 7-5. She will meet top seed Risa Ozaki tomorrow at 11am on Centre Court, the opening match of the day.

Patterson (VIC) outplayed Zuzana Zlochova from the Slovak Republic winning 6-4, 6-4 in 69 minutes.  Patterson will now take on Italian qualifier Georgia Breschia who caused the upset of the day by eliminating second seed Hiroko Kuwata (JPN).

Canberra girl Alison Bai and partner Lizette Cabrera (QLD) progressed to tomorrow’s doubles semi-final with a tight 6-4, 7-5 quarter-final victory over Victorians Tammi Patterson and Sally Peers.

Tomorrow’s order of play includes all of the singles quarter-finals together with all of the doubles semi-finals. Following Rodionova and Ozaki, Thompson will take on eighth seed, Smith. Patterson is also in action at 11am where she will meet qualifier, Brescia (ITA).
