Emerging Canberra tennis player, Annerly Poulos will represent Australia in Singapore this month, one of two Australian players who won the WTA Future Stars Australian qualifying event.

Twelve of Australia’s rising female tennis players went head to head across seven separate qualifying events held across Australia between April and September 2016 across two age categories: 14/U and 16/U.

The final qualifying event for the 14/U wildcard to Singapore was the Canberra Junior International (19-23 September) which saw Poulos take the lead in qualifying points to head to Singapore after winning the final against Tahlia Van Der Eerden 7-6(2) 6-1.

Poulos said she is thrilled to be heading to Singapore – a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to play on the same stage as the stars of the WTA.

The WTA Future Stars Singapore final will coincide with the BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore presented by SC Global, which will feature the top eight WTA singles players, and top eight doubles teams.

World No.1 Angelique Kerber, World No.2 Serena Williams and World No.3 Simona Halep have already qualified for the event.

As well as having the opportunity to play on centre court at the Singapore Indoor Stadium, the winners will join top players such as Williams at the WTA Finals Draw Ceremony and mingle with WTA legends of the game.

Launched in 2014, The WTA Future Stars program aims to inspire and encourage young players to play tennis and partake in local community service activities.

The program is open to Asia-Pacific’s top U/14 and U/16 Junior Girls, and invites participants selected through a qualifying structure to compete in Singapore between October 17-24, 2016.

WTA Future Stars invitations extend to 18 countries in the Asia-Pacific region, with one national representative in each age category competing in the event.
