On Saturday 17 September Canberra School of Tennis and Weston Creek Tennis Club will run massive tennis event, Tennis Carnivale, offering free tennis activities, tennis clinics and court hire to the local community, raising money and awareness of the Tristan Knowles Kid’s Cancer Foundation.

There will be free tennis coaching clinics for juniors and adults, plus a variety of other fun activities including a giant slide, face painting, jumping castles, radar speed guns and a DJ. Plus, a showcase of the latest tennis technology and equipment.

Tristan Knowles was just 9 years old when he was diagnosed with bone cancer. He endured 22 courses of chemotherapy and had his left leg amputated. He relapsed at 12 years of age. His battle with cancer continued. At the age of 15, Tristan was fortunate enough to be donated a sports wheelchair & that single act of generosity allowed him to pursue his love of wheelchair basketball. This not only restored his confidence, but also sparked a renewed passion for life.

Since then, Tristan has gone on to achieve a Paralympic Gold medal, a World Championship title, a Bachelor of Commerce and is a proud recipient of an Order of Australia Medal. Tristan is also considered to be one of the best wheelchair basketball players in the world & is currently in Rio for the next Paralympics starting 7^th September. He has set up his foundation so others can now benefit by offering scholarships to kids with cancer who want to pursue their dream after cancer.

Owner and founder of Canberra School of Tennis, Mark Walton, has known Tristan for almost 30-years.

‘Tristan is an amazing human being” he said. “He epitomises the ‘hero’s journey’ and gives inspiration and hope to all but especially to kids with Cancer that there is an exciting life after the disease”.

“Tennis Carnvale has received a lot of support from the local community and has gone from strength to strength in recent years. It’s a great opportunity to support a very worthy cause whilst enjoying the great game of tennis & other activities”, he said.

Any proceeds from Tennis Carnivale go to the Tristan Knowles Kids Cancer Foundation.
