Arina Rodionova (VIC) is the only Australian remaining in the ACT Claycourt International #2 after a tough day which saw five Aussies knocked out.

Seventh seeded Rodionova faced last week’s finalist Destanee Aiava (VIC). It was Aiava who got out to an early lead, securing the first set 6-4. Rodionova responded in the second set, with scores locked at 4-4, she broke and then served it out to level the match. Rodionova then ran away with the third set, winning it 6-1 to move through to the quarterfinals.

Olivia Tjandramulia (QLD) looked as though she was going to cause another upset, leading second seed Jia-Jing Lu (CHN) by a set and 5-3. But with Tjandramulia unable to serve out the match, Lu rattled off nine games in a row to go up 5-0 in the third. Lu closed it out to set up a quarterfinal with qualifier Anna Bondar (HUN), who defeated Croatian Tena Lukas in straight sets.

Storm Sanders (WA) went down in three sets to eight seed Varatchaya Wongteanchai (THA). Barbora Stefkova (CZE) was too strong for Lizette Cabrera (QLD), while Jessica Moore (WA) lost to third seed Ya-Hsuan Lee. Top seed Miyu Kato and qualifier Vivian Heisen also moved through to the quarterfinals.

In doubles, Canberra’s Kaitlin Staines and Kaylah McPhee (QLD) were unable to get past top seeds Kato and Eri Hozumi (JPN), going down 6-3, 6-1. Kato and Hozumi will Ashleigh Barty (QLD) and Rodionova in tomorrow’s final

Singles quarterfinal and the doubles final will be played on Friday from 11am with free entry into the Canberra Tennis Centre.
