January and February has been a busy period for our elite junior and pro players. Congratulations to Nick Kyrgios, who captured his first ever ATP Tour title when he defeated 3 successive top 12 players in a row including Gasquet, Berdych and Cilic. Nick then backed this up with a semi-final showing in Dubai, moving his ranking to 27, just 2 places short of his career high of 25 achieved in June 2015.

ACT pro player Alison Bai was given a main draw doubles wildcard into the Australian Open. Alison and her partner, Naiktha Bains from Qld, fought hard and went close to winning their first round which they lost in 3  sets. Alison continues to win matches on the recent pro tour events in Australia, recently knocking out the top seed in Port Pirie on her way to the quarterfinals.

The ACT had 3 junior players compete in the Australian Open Junior Championships. 13 year old Annerly Poulos and 16 year old Dimitri Morogiannis unfortunately were eliminated in the qualifying event, however Kaitlin Staines was awarded a main draw wildcard in singles and doubles. She went down 1st round in singles, but her and her partner Jeanette Lin of Victoria won their first round doubles match before losing a close one to the eventual winners. Kaitlin and Jeanette also performed well at the Traralgon lead up event where they reached the semi-finals and the Auckland G3 ITF Junior where they made the final.

Here are the best results from ACT players from January and February:

Ash Simes – Runner–up 14/u Girls singles Albury Gold JT

Charlie Snow – Winner 12/u Boys singles ACT Gold JT
