The ACT team has finished in 6th position at the 2015 Australian School Sport Championships (Pizzey Cup). The event was held at the Domain Tennis Centre in Hobart from the 2-9th of May.
In the first round, ACT started off a with a tough match against WA, going down by 26 sets to 7, with Dimitri Morogiannis and Imogen Clews picked up impressive wins at the top spots. On day 2 the ACT faced off against Queensland in a highly competitive match. After the singles matches, Queensland were only up by 3 sets, however they proved too strong in the doubles, taking all 6 matches to win 20 sets to 11. Round 3 saw them take on eventual winners NSW, who had too much fire power for the ACT. Imogen Clews picked up an impressive win at the number 1 spot, while Yuki Okamoto and Jack Fuller took sets off their opponents, with the team going down 28 sets to 4.
The next day they backed up against Victoria, who finished in second spot overall. Violet Marriott was the only player to gain a victory, with Victoria taking a 27 to 4 win. Round 5 saw the ACT take on the host state Tasmania. Yuki Okamoto and Alexander De Jong picked up early victories for the ACT, and 3 doubles pairs had wins, but ultimately Tassie took the match 23 sets to 8.
On the last day ACT took on South Australia. 8 singles players and 4 doubles pairings had victories to end the event on a high note, with ACT defeating SA by 23 sets to 11.
The Tennis Australia Cup was also held during the week, which is an individual event that all players participated in. In the Girls draw, Imogen Clews progressed to the quarter finals before going down in a supertiebreaker to NSW’s Gabriella Da Silva-Fick. Alexander De Jong was the best performing boy, reaching the round of 16.
