On Monday the 3rd and Tuesday the 4th of March secondary school students from all over canberra gathered together for the 2014 Secondary Schools Singles competition. This event is used as a trialling process to select the team for the Pizzey cup, with the squad of 8 boys and 8 girls travelling to Perth to compete in the annual event.

With over 200 players competiting over the two days the tournament was a great success. In the Open Boys A division Alex De Jong from Canberra Grammar School took home the title defeating Campbell High school’s Zac Donaldson 6-3. In the Open Girls A Division Tallulah Farrow from Canberra Girls Grammar School recovered from a 4-2 deficit to defeat Alfred Deakins Leah Williamson 6-4. The 14/U Boys title was won by Lyneham High school student Hayden Okines while the 14/U Girls title was won by Tara Dabrowski from Canberra Girls Grammar School. Overall the tournament was a great success and tournament organisers were extremely happy with the manner of all players and seeing how keen everyone was to get out on court.

Tennis ACT would like to thank all players and school staff members who attended over the two days and helped make everything run smoothly.
