Canberra residents will have a rare chance this week to get up close and personal with the Australian Open men’s and women’s trophy. The trophies have been making their way around Asia-Pacific and Australia for the last month and after Canberra will continue around the country before finishing in Melbourne for the beginning of the Australian Open.

On Friday, the trophies will be on display at the Belwest Tennis Club before moving to Weston Creek Tennis Club on Saturday morning. All members of the tennis community invited to attend and catch a rare glimpse of the Australian Open trophies.

“It is such a great opportunity for Canberra residents to get up close and personal with a real piece of tennis history,” Anthony Okines, Community Tennis Manager at Tennis ACT said.

“It’s not every day that a trophy of the Australian Open’s calibre shows up in Canberra.”

This year marks the 100th time the men’s Australian Open singles title will be contested, and for the second year in a row the men’s and women’s singles winners will take home an exact full-size replica trophy instead of a miniature replica.
