Sam Groth has come a long way since coming back from injury to help Liston Tennis Club win the 2011 Premier League Competition in November, with the Victorian firing down the fastest serve of all time at an ATP Challenger event in South Korea.

Clocked at an unbelievable 263.4km/h, the serve was 12km/h faster than the previous record held by Croatian giant Ivo Karlovic.

The serve came during Groth’s second round loss to Uladzimir Ignatik of Belarus, but just to be sure, Groth also fired down two serves at 255.7km/h and 253.5km/h, which means he now holds the record for the fastest three serves of all time.

There was some doubt over the legality of the serve, but the ATP confirmed that “the event was using approved equipment, and that other data gathered appeared within a normal range.”

He went on Twitter after the match, choosing to complain about the loss rather than the record- breaking serve.

“Lost 4&3. Average! Did hit a 263kmh serve though in for an ace,” he tweeted.

This amazing feat hasn’t gone unnoticed in the upper echelons of the tennis world, with Roger Federer describing it as “an incredible number.”
