The Grand Slam Coaches Workshop returned to John Cain Arena during the Australian Open on Tuesday 25th January.  Over 80 coaches enjoyed a day of professional development, networking, hospitality and of course brilliant tennis.

The coaches were privileged to have Tennis Australia CEO Craig Tiley and newly appointed Director of Coaching Adam Carey open the workshop with their insights into the Australian Open and the Coaching Industry.  Tennis legends Jim Courier and John Fitzgerald joined the coaches for a Q & A session – sharing their vast knowledge of the sport and experiences as Davis Cup Coaches for the United States and Australia respectively.

The common theme was the critical importance of coaches in both introducing players to the game and developing them to their full potential.

The day showcased local talent from coaches within Victoria and Australia, with a focus on youth, inclusion through to High Performance. Inspiring and educational presentations were delivered by Steve Blundell, Alison Scott, Wes Horskins, Aidan Fitzgerald, Beti Sekulovski and Sarah Stone, while Victorian Coach Development Coordinator Emily Martin lead and hosted the day superbly.

The event was a brilliant celebration of our Victorian coaching community, who have shown tremendous resilience in the past 2 years to continue delivering wonderful programs for all their players and growing our sport.
