The 2012 Future Leaders Program went into camp from 2-4 July, with 26 participants involved in a number of activities across the three days.

The program aims to introduce the next generation of tennis volunteers to the sport, with a focus around giving back to their local club.

During the three days, the Future Leaders participated in various activities including an introduction to Hot Shots and Cardio Tennis taster session and an introduction to officiating.

They also participated in teambuilding activities focusing around leadership, teamwork and trusting their peers.

“It’s a good idea … it all helps with getting a job in the future,” said Cian Brien who participated in the camp.

“I loved all the teambuilding activities, especially trivia and creating our own teambuilding games.”

In order to finish the program, participants now will complete 40 hours of volunteer work at their local club in various areas including taking on roles within their committee, coaching MLC Tennis Hot Shots and helping run club tournaments and fundraisers.

Tennis Victoria’s Peter Jenkin ran the camp and said the quality and commitment of all the participants was outstanding.

“We had a great group of Future Leaders and I am really excited to see some of the volunteer work they do during their 40 hours,” Jenkin said.
