18 June 2012 | Tennis Victoria

As Tennis Victoria’s Championships Dinner on 25 June draws closer, we take a look at the finalists in each category; today, we look at the Coaching Excellence – MLC Tennis Hot Shots award.

The recipient of this award, presented by MLC, delivers an exceptional coaching experience, where all core elements of the MLC Tennis Hot Shots program are met and exceeded. They are involved in the local community and work hard to continue to grow their players’ skills, allowing them to consistently advance to higher competition levels. The recipient is also involved in the local community, working with schools on special initiatives to help expand the game.

Danielle Borle

Danielle Borle is a dedicated and passionate coach who aims to expand the influence of tennis around her area and enhance all her players’ skills. She provides coaching for all levels of MLC Tennis Hot Shots. Danielle encourages her players to progress by providing report cards so they can understand what they are doing well and where improvement is required. This keeps players motivated and ensures they keep returning. This is demonstrated by Danielle’s 100% retention rate – even when players outgrow the junior competitions they still stay at the club to help out in different ways. Danielle is very involved in the local community and schools, offering a free tennis program to schools. Danielle is also on many committees at clubs and associations in her area.

Vicky Lee

Vicky Lee is an MLC Tennis Hot Shots coach at Doncaster Tennis Club and provides all levels of the MLC Tennis Hot Shots program. Vicky will start the Master Club Professional Course this year and has a number of Junior Development assistant coaches who all keep their knowledge and skills up-to-date. Vicky supports the club and local community in many ways. Earlier this year she co-ordinated and ran a Club Open Day, carrying out all the marketing and ensuring the day was very successful. There are many primary school sessions of MLC Tennis Hot Shots that Vicky helps to run, with these sessions often getting over 200 students attending. They now have permanent sessions before school and during lunch, with the number of students involved constantly growing.

Wes Horskins

Wes Horskins delivers a large MLC Tennis Hot Shots program at three affiliated venues. His main focus is at East Malvern Tennis Club (EMTC) where he coaches and organises many MLC Tennis Hot Shots competitions for his players. On top of regular coaching, a number of internal tournaments are held, including Term Challenges, Mini Grand Slams, a World Tour Hot Shots competition and challenge matches. These competitions incorporate the three different levels of MLC Tennis Hot Shots so that all ages can participate. EMTC has been very successful in securing new, and retaining existing, players. Their player numbers continue to rise steadily, with school sessions and open days attracting new members. Wes also runs before school and lunch time coaching sessions at no charge to encourage schools to support the club and introduce students to tennis.
