Tennis ACT is excited to launch a new program designed to encourage, motivate and introduce girls to tennis.

The program will be piloted in term 4, and is open to female players 12-17 years across Canberra and region.

Each week sessions will consist of on court activities as well as the chance to have fun off court. There will be a range of off court activities to inspire and enhance health and wellness for participants including nutrition sessions, learning how to make healthy snacks and much more.

It’s fun, social, non-competitive, best of all you, as the participant, get to determine how, and what you play!

Tennis 4 Teens will start in Term 4 and sessions will run for 60-90 minutes, and cater for all abilities. This is a great chance to let off some steam, get active and socialise with friends.

Tennis ACT School Development Coordinator Brittany Hughes said the program is all about having fun.

“This program is a perfect for girls wanting to have a hit in a very social environment. We have dedicated and passionate coaches, who are excited to get the program underway in their clubs. I encourage all girls to come along and have a go”.

World No.1 Ash Barty has previously spoken about the importance of empowering girls to play sport for themselves and to ignore peer and societal pressures.

“Aside from the obvious health benefits, sport is a fantastic way to develop confidence and feel good by doing something physical. I hope to see more girls take up sport, whatever they choose.

“You don’t have to be a professional athlete to experience the gifts sport delivers. The most important thing is having a go and having fun.”
