The ACT has claimed two gold medals at the Australian Tennis Seniors Teams Championships in Busselton, WA.  The women’s team of Leonie Ainsworth, Ros Balodis, Rebecca Claremont, Christine Jarrett, Beverly Roberts, and Sue Willis claimed gold in the women’s 55 event, while the men’s team of Graeme Ainsworth, Anthony Connell, Greg Holcombe, Graeme Rossiter and Graham Smith were successful in the men’s 60/65 event.

Mark Hardy was part of a Victoria team which won gold in the 45/50/55 Men’s event, while Pat Moloney joined a WA team to finish in second place in the 75’s Men’s event.  The ACT 45 Women’s team finished in third position, while the 45/50/55 Men’s team ended up in fourth place.

The following week, the Australian Tennis Seniors Individual Championships took place with players from the ACT posting some great results.  Ros Balodis led the way, claiming the singles, doubles (with Kerry Ballard) and mixed (with Peter Hampton) titles.  Pat Moloney reached the semifinals of the men’s 75 singles and also finished in 3rd place in the doubles while Tim Harris and Graeme Rossiter made the final four of the men’s 60 doubles.

Along with players from across Australia the field also boasted a strong international contingent with players from 18 different countries, including Canada, USA, France, Switzerland, New Zealand, Germany, Algeria, Poland and Italy represented across the tournament.

The 2021 Tennis Seniors Australian Championships will be held in Canberra from 17-29 January.
