ACT trio Pat Moloney, Sue Willis and John Stark will wear the green and gold as they represent Australia at the Super Seniors World Team Championships in Umag, Croatia from 15-20 September.

Sue Willis will compete for the Kitty Godfree Cup, Pat Moloney will play for the Bitsy Grant Cup, while John Stark will be looking to help the Aussies win the Jack Crawford Cup.

For Willis, it will be a special moment when she lines up for her country.

“I feel honoured to be selected to represent Australia.  It is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.  I have been lucky to be in the right place at the right time.”

Willis earned a call up after fellow Canberra player Helen Holcombe was forced to withdraw with injury, with Holcombe being a great support.

“Helen has been wonderful in supporting me with my tennis.  I played a lot of tennis in Canberra as a junior and since returning as a ‘senior’ and now a ‘super senior’ Helen allowed me the opportunity to play in her team at the Australian teams in Shepparton and in the doubles at the ACT Seniors Tournament held at Easter,” Willis said.

Likewise, Moloney is honoured to receive the call up after previously being considered for selection.

“I am extremely thrilled. I have achieved a lifelong ambition to represent Australia,” Moloney said.

One of the players Moloney will team up with is Hayden Rees, with the pair having a long history, growing up playing in the junior ranks together.  Moloney has been busy on the court, completing his preparations by training in the US with some friends.

Following the team championships, the Canberra players will stay on to compete in the Super Senior World Individual Championships.
