ACT Claycourt International players, Abbie Myers (NSW), Naiktha Bains (Qld) and Tereza Mihalikova (SVK) have visited Gold Creek School, having a hit and answering some questions with 30 lucky Year 8 students. Bains and Myers are the 5 and 8 seeds at the ACT Claycourt International #2, while Bains and Mihalikova are the top seed in doubles and champions from event #1.

The school was selected to receive a visit after participating in the Schools Extravaganza for the Apis Canberra International 2018.

The competition held last year, assigned partner schools in the ACT a player to support through the event. Gold Creek School was assigned Jordan Thompson and as a result of his victory , the school won the opportunity to host a player during the ACT Claycourt International.

Gold Creek School Physical and Health Education teacher Brad Lynch said it was an exciting experience for the class.

“It was a great opportunity, our kids really enjoyed having some professional tennis players come out.

“I think it was good for them to have the question and answer at the end and find out a little bit about the girls, and what it takes to be a tennis player and the sacrifices they make to succeed in their sport”

The chance to learn from some of the world’s best players was a highlight for Gold Creek student, Taleah.

“I really appreciated them being here because we got to play with them and they were able to teach us how to hit the ball and we got to learn about how they live their daily lives and how they travel”.

Main draw at the ACT Claycourt International #2 will commence on Tuesday.  Draws and the daily order of play can be found here.
