Steve Darcis (BEL) has withdrawn from the East Hotel Canberra Challenger, while local player James Frawley (ACT) has received a wildcard into main draw.

Darcis is currently playing in the ATP 250 event in Pune, India and has made it through to the semifinals of the event.  Darcis has knocked out two seeds enroute to the semifinals including the top seed at next week’s East Hotel Canberra Challenger, Roberto Baena Carballes (ESP).

Tournament director Kim Kachel says “While we are disappointed we won’t get to see Steve in Canberra next week, we are happy to see him back on the tour and playing so well.  We wish him all the best in the semifinals of the Tata Open Maharashtra and the 2019 season.

Canberra’s James Frawley, along with Bradley Mousley (SA) and Matthew Christopher Romios (Vic) have received main draw wildcards.

It will be the second time Frawley has featured in main draw in the event after coming through qualifying in 2017 before falling in the opening round.

The 24-year-old is looking forward to the opportunity to kick start his 2019 season.

“I’m very excited, it’s pretty cool to get a main draw wildcard in your home city for a big tournament.

“I’ve had a pretty decent off season, there have been a few top 100 players who have been training here, so I’ve been practicing with them, so I’m feeling ready,” Frawley said.

Main draw for the East Hotel Canberra Challenger will commence on Sunday.  The draw will be release on Saturday with the order of play for Sunday available Saturday afternoon at the following location – https://www.tennis.com.au/tournaments/pro-tournaments/australian-pro-tour/canberra-2
