A quality field is set for the Canberra Wheelchair Tennis Open with 12 entrants contesting the men’s event, led by defending champion and World No.62 Keegan Oh-Chee (NSW).  Oh-Chee will face tough competition from fellow Australian Henry de Cure and Martyn Dunn who are ranked No.76 and No.102 in the world rankings.  Former World No.27, Yusuke Nishimura from Japan will lead the international charge.  Canberra local, Matthew Leggett will also line up for the event.

The women’s event is highlighted by the return of last year’s champion and world No.81 Janine Watson who will be hard to beat coming off her win at the Queensland Open in July.  Watson is the reigning Australian National title holder having won the title over Bridie Kean last November.

The event will also feature a great junior contingent with 9 players set to take part following the Talent Development Camp that has been hosted at the AIS throughout the week.

Finn Broadbent will be top seed for the event and is currently ranked 11 in the world for Junior players while Hayley Slocombe will play in both the Junior and Women’s events and is ranked 17 in the world in the Juniors.

We are sure to see some fantastic tennis over the weekend as the players try to win some valuable ITF ranking points as we head towards a big Summer of Tennis.

The Canberra Wheelchair Tennis event will also host a free Come and Try day on Sunday 30 September for individuals wanting to come and try the sport. Click here to download the flyer.

Entry to the Canberra Tennis Centre is free.
