16 August 2018 | Tennis ACT

It is with great sadness that Tennis ACT heard of the passing of Lisa Bush (nee Weerasekera), who lost her long battle with cancer overnight.

Lisa was an outstanding ACT junior tennis player winning many local and interstate junior tournaments and played professionally in the 1980’s and 90’s, reaching a career high singles WTA ranking of 417 and doubles ranking of 246. She played the main draw of the doubles at the Australian Open and also the singles qualifying. Lisa went on to coach tennis for several years in Canberra, at times alongside her uncle and local coach, the late Ray Manning, and worked for Tennis ACT on various occasions, often taking squad sessions and teams interstate. Lisa was a lifelong tennis player and supporter.

She was a vibrant part of the ACT tennis community and contributed significantly to tennis in Canberra throughout her life. She turned 50 years old in February this year.

Our hearts and sympathy go out to her family, her children Caitlin and Duane and her sister Michelle, and her many tennis friends.

Lisa’s funeral will be held at the Mitchell Crematorium on Monday August 20 at 9am.
