17 May 2018 | Tennis ACT

The annual Ladies Charity Day was held on Thursday 10 May at Belconnen and Melba Tennis Clubs with 60 participants taking part.

Despite cold conditions, the rain held off until the conclusion of the tennis matches.

This year’s event supported Endometriosis Australia which endeavours to increase recognition of endometriosis, provide education programs and fund research.  The event raised just under $2000.

Endometriosis is a common disease in which the tissue that is similar to the lining of the womb grows outside it in other parts of the body.

More than 700,000 (10%) of Australian women suffer with endometriosis at some point in their life with the disease often starting in teenagers. Symptoms are variable and this may contribute to the seven to ten year delay in diagnosis.

Former Kaleen Tennis Club member Holly Marando was diagnosed with the disease in 2014.  Marando shared her story with participants encouraging people to talk about the disease and raise awareness.
