Canberra’s Annerly Poulos has helped Australia qualify for the Junior Fed Cup Finals with the team winning the Asia/Oceania qualifying tournament held in Malaysia from April 16-21.  Poulos compiled an impressive 7-1 record over the week including two deciding match tiebreak doubles victories.

Poulos was joined in the team Olivia Gadecki (Qld) and Anastasia Berezov (NSW), with Emma Doyle as captain.

In the pool rounds, sixth seeded Australia dominated their opening two matches with 3-0 victories over New Zealand and India.  The team then defeated second seeds Hong Kong 2-1 after Poulos won her singles and then combined with Gadecki to win the deciding doubles match 10-7 in the match tiebreak.

Berezov and Poulos both won their singles matches against Chinese Taipei to then progress to the semifinals.  The sixth seeded Australian’s faced a tough match against fourth seeded Japan which again came down to a clutch doubles match with Poulos and Gadecki saving a match point to win 6-2 1-6 12-10.

In the final, Berezov got Australia off to a winning start in Saturday’s final against Indonesia before Gadecki sealed victory in straight sets.

The Junior Fed Cup team will join Australia’s Junior Davis Cup side at the finals in Budapest later this year.
