P² (P Squared) Advisory holds an annual corporate charity tennis event to raise funds for Canberra based charities and has today realised its goal of raising $1 million since its inception in 2011.

In its 8th year running, the Invitational held on Thursday 1 March at the Canberra Tennis Centre, Lyneham, hosted 28 registered corporate teams that, alongside many more Canberra businesses and individuals, made donations that took the event over the line to the one million dollar mark.

“Raising $1 million since the inception of this fantastic event is a dream come true but what’s more rewarding it talking to those that have directly benefited from the contributions made through the Invitational and the ripple effect that causes in the greater community. It’s certainly a very special thing to be part of!” said Peatey “The success of this event is reliant of the involvement of the businesses and individuals that participate each year – we couldn’t do it without them and the tennis greats that also participate to make it a truly unique event.”

Each year, Charities are interviewed and personally selected by Mark Peatey (Managing Director of P²) to ensure that are desperately needing funds. It is on this basis that funds are raised, to ensure that 100% is used for a specific program, or a transformational project, to provide a significant difference and/or enable the charity to become self-sufficient in the future. The charity must be Canberra based and the funds cannot be placed into a national pool or used to fund overheads.

100% of funds raised are donated directly to the selected Charities (all costs of running the event are covered by P²).

Tennis greats of the game Wally Masur, John Fitzgerald and Alicia Molik attended the Invitational and played with a number of participants, with Masur and Fitzgerald having supported the fundraiser for many years alongside a number of other tennis legends including Pat Cash, Todd Woodbridge, Darren Cahill and Nick Kyrgios over the years.

The Invitational was followed by a dinner last night, held at Rubicon Restaurant where a further donation by EY and an auction for a signed and framed, 1 of 5, Fed Cup memorabilia piece saw the total raised for Menslink come in at $153,500.

The funds will enable Menslink to roll out their award winning ‘Silence is Deadly’ mental health initiative to primary schools, potentially tripling its coverage to over 120 schools. They will also hire an additional counsellor to provide free counselling sessions to young guys in schools and in their offices at Weston Creek and will allow them to double the capacity of their mentoring program to support more young guys, most of whom live in single mum families.

The event has been transformational to Canberra charities including; Stella Bella Little Stars Foundation & AFFIRM (2017), Newborn Intensive Care Foundation & the Heart Foundation (2016), TADACT and Kulture Break (2015), The Cerebral Palsy Alliance – ACT (2014), The George Gregan Foundation (2013), Oasis Youth Support Network (2012) and Starlight Foundation (2011).

The success of today’s event has enabled P² Advisory to realise it’s goal of raising $1 million would not have been possible without the support of it’s Principal Sponsor Harvey Norman Commercial and all of the corporate businesses and individuals that have participated and donated in the last 8 years.
