Almost 100 children from six schools have taken part in ANZ Tennis Hot Shots Gala Days held across two venues on September 1 with and Mother Theresa Catholic Primary and Holy Family Primary School winning their respective events.

The North Gungahlin event was held at Good Shepherd Primary School, with Mother Teresa edging out Holy Spirit Primary in a closely contested event.

The Tuggeranong event hosted by Charles Condor Primary School, saw Holy Family Smashers come out on top over the Holy Family Volleyers.

Mother Teresa, Holy Spirit, and Holy Family will now join Aranda Primary, St Edmunds College, Giralang Primary, and Canberra Grammar school at the ACT State Final on September 13 at the Canberra Tennis Centre.  The teams will play off with the champions earning the right to represent the ACT at the Todd Woodbridge Cup Finals in November.

Mother Teresa teacher, Brendan Roweth said the students had a great time at the Gala Day

“The students were really engaged during the day. The structure and set up allowed for maximum participation and enabled all students to experience success on the tennis court.

The school will look forward to getting back out on court for the ACT State Final with Roweth adding “Our main focus if for children to be active and enjoy participating and any opportunity for children to represent their school is fantastic.”

When asked about the best part of the day, Mother Teresa student Jack Dugdale said “Playing matches against other schools and having fun playing with my friends. It’s a fun sport which keeps you active and everyone is able to play.”

Two events were previously held in August, taking the total of participating students to over 250, across 13 schools.
