Brindabella Christian College (Charnwood Campus) hosted their Tennis, Walk, and Fresh Tastes Celebration Day at the end of Term 2.  As a proud Partner School since 2016, Brindabella celebrated the important role health and fitness plays in schools by inviting Tennis ACT School Development Coordinator, Geoff Bartlett to attend, as well as representative from the Fresh Tastes, an initiative of the ACT Government.

The day commenced with the children from years 1-4 all picking up a racquet and having a hit on the purpose built ANZ Tennis Hot Shots courts at Melba Tennis Club.  Students, parents and staff then walked 2 kilometres back to school to enjoy a freshly made healthy wrap inspired by the newly formed ‘Brindabella Cooking Club’.

Head of Charnwood Campus, Michelle Woodward explained how the initiative came about.

“To promote the walk to school program, tennis and Fresh Tastes we decided to link all 3 activities for our morning of activities.  It was a great opportunity to link fitness and food and to showcase all the great skills that the students have developed over the term”.

The school has been thrilled with the outcome of the tennis program with Woodward adding, “By accessing tennis coaching through the Sporting Schools funding, Brindabellla Christian College has been able to access quality coaching and build a strong partnership with Tennis Australia and Tennis ACT to promote, teach and embed tennis at school.  It has been a hit literally”.
