6 July 2017 | Tennis ACT

Christian Parker has taken out the 2017 Super Serve Volley Tournament, to add to his 2016 triumph making him the first player to win back to back titles. Both years, Christian has gone through undefeated all round matches and finals.

Christian met Erik Chen in the final and it went all the way in the best of 3 super tie breakers. Both players were deserving finalists, with Erik the first junior to make it through to the decider.  With the scores locked, it was Christian who showed his experience to take control of the deciding tie breaker and win the title.

Tournament Director, David Briggs said “This year’s tournament was another success with 16 ACT tennis players taking to the courts, with each player showcasing the classic serve and volley tactic, as they got to the net on every point”.

“This is the 6th time the event has been run on the eve of Wimbledon to help keep the serve volley dream alive”.

Super serve volley is a fast paced game where each player must serve volley every point, while battling it out in super tie breakers (first to ten points). It was inspired by the Wimbledon final in 2001 against Pat Rafter and Goran Ivanisevic, the last time true serve volleyers were in a Wimbledon final.
