Up and coming tennis player Jimmy Fu has enjoyed great success this month, competing well at three competitions.

Fu, part of Nathan Price’s academy, reached the final of the 14/u boys singles at the Singleton Grasscourt Junior Tournament (JT), then went on the win the 16/u boys singles title at the Tennis World Canberra Challenge in April. The 14-year-old continued his good form to win the 14/u boys singles title in May at the Bathurst Junior Tournament (JT). Jimmy also competed at the 14/u Grasscourt Nationals where he won two singles matches. Fu’s results should see a strong rise in his Australian Ranking next update. Congratulations and well done on an outstanding month.

The recent Bathurst event highlighted 14-year-old Ashleigh Simes who won the 14/u girls singles title without dropping a set. Daniel McDonald also won the 12/u Boys singles event at the Tennis World Canberra Challenge.

10-year-old aspiring tennis star Charlie Camus reached three final round matches, including the 12/u boys singles event at the Bathurst JT, 14/u boys singles at the Tennis World Canberra Challenge and the 12/u boys singles and doubles (with ACT player Daniel McDonald) at the Albury Easter Open.

Whilst the younger players were picking up titles close to home, some of the older ACT National Academy players were competing in two ITF junior events in both Melbourne and Mornington.

The best result came from Lisa Mays, who reached the doubles final the first week and the singles final the second week. Annerly Poulos also reached a doubles final in the second week, whilst Ashleigh Simes made her first ever ITF ranking points.

Not to be outdone was 17-year-old Jamieson Nathan who  won the AMT men’s singles at the Tennis World Canberra Challenge and was a semi-finalist at the Tasmanian Easter Championships. At the same event, 19-year-old Sarina Kang took out the women’s singles by defeating ACT player Leah Williamson in the final. Sarina was a finalist at the Bathurst Bronze Australian Money Tournament (AMT) partnering Chorlida Kang, her sister, to reach the doubles final.

On the international scene, ACT player James Frawley has some great results when he reached the doubles final of the ITF Futures event in Antalya, Turkey. At the same event, Frawley ousted two players in R32 and R16 to reach the singles quarterfinals. James is now in Madrid at the ATP  Masters 1000 event assisting fellow Canberran Nick Kyrgios as his hitting partner, as Nick plays his first clay court event of the season.
