Canberra has a vibrant tennis officiating community made up of people who are committed to supporting local tournaments to working at the highest levels within Australia and internationally.

Do you love playing, watching or seeing people get involved in tennis?  If yes, then have you considered exploring your love of tennis by becoming an official?

ACT Officiating Advisor Emma Walter explained officials are there to support everyone involved with game to ensure the best possible outcome on the day.

“Court Supervisors are essential to local tournaments to ensure all players enjoy their tennis experience in a safe and fair environment”.

“Tennis is one of only a few sports where there are not officials on each court, so we are there to support players, coaches, parents and spectators in ensuring matches are played following the rules of tennis, code of behaviour and in the spirit of good sportsmanship and fair play”.

From a personal perspective, Walter has officiated all over the world and enjoys coming home to Canberra to support local events as a court supervisor.

“Court supervising is all about encouraging and fostering a positive and inclusive environment for players, especially juniors, who can enjoy this great sport throughout their life,” she said.

“It is also a great way to interact and educate players and parents on the rules of the game to assist in their understanding moving forward”.
