Under threatening weather, Kooyong Lawn booked themselves a spot in both of the 2015 Tennis Victoria Premier League Finals.

In the women’s competition, as reigning champions, Kooyong Lawn overcame newcomers Mornington in a see sawing semi-final to retain a shot at back to back glory.

Down a set in both of the early doubles rubbers things looked grim and an upset looked on the cards. With a little luck on their side Kooyong Lawn were able to clinch both doubles rubbers by taking out the match tie break third set 10 – 8.

In the men’s competition, Sunday will see a rematch of last year’s final of Grace Park Hawthorn versus Kooyong Lawn.  Kooyong Lawn overcame Royal South Yarra Lawn in a tough semi-final battle.

Kooyong Lawn jumped out of the blocks early by clinching the vital first 2 doubles rubbers. But early in the singles rubbers it appeared the match was going to go the distance, until rising young gun Marc Polmans of Kooyong Lawn showed his class and stepped up with a commanding straight sets victory over Lewis Miles. This enabled Kooyong Lawn a shot at redemption in this year’s final after losing to Grace Park Hawthorn in the closest of finals last year.

The Premier League Finals day is one of the most prestigious days on the Tennis Victoria calendar and with total prize money of $14k to be won across both the men’s and women’s.  Play will commence at 12.00pm at Glen Iris Valley Rec TC, with the inaugural Tennis Victoria ANZ Tennis Hot Shots Metro Challenge the perfect precursor to the main event starting at 9.00am.
