9 January 2015 | Tennis Victoria

Sunday 14 December played host to the inaugural ANZ Tennis Hot Shots (ANZTHS) Leagues Carnival Day & Asia-Pacific Tennis League Experience. The National Tennis Centre at Melbourne Park was lit up by 76 ANZ Tennis Hot Shots Orange and Green Ball kids across 24 teams from 16 venues around Victoria.

These kids had the fantastic opportunity to play for their club / centre at the home of the Australian Open.  The winners then had the opportunity to be introduced on court with the Asia-Pacific Tennis League Finalists.

After much anticipation and excitement, the action began at 9am, with the Orange Ball kids taking the court in front of a large crowd of coaches, volunteers and parents. The Green ball kids then stole the show taking to the Melbourne Park courts at 10am to show off their ANZ Tennis Hot Shots skills.

Each team played in a tie of six matches against another venue on the National Tennis Centre indoor courts and clay courts, with the core concepts of ANZ Tennis Hot Shots Leagues, such as calling the lines fairly, being a good team mate and respecting your opponent, being consistently applied by the kids.

All participants were presented with a giveaway bag, certificate and fantastic group photo. The winning teams from the day received the privilege of walking onto the court with the Asia-Pacific Tennis League Top 4 men’s and women’s teams, and having the opportunity to toss the coin for the start of play.

Kids, Parents, and Coaches then enjoyed a free BBQ lunch and the thrilling final matches in the Asia-Pacific Tennis League.

We would like to say a big thanks to everyone who attended and contributed to this amazing day, the first of many to come. We hope to see you all next year.
