Sunshine Coast Ladies Midweek Tennis Association Inc

Katie Rose Cottage Charity Day & AGM

30 August 2012 |

The day dawned clear and warm for the Sunshine Coast Ladies Midweek Tennis Association’s special annual event which was held at Kawana Tennis Club. The association’s Annual General Meeting has successfully combined with a charity tennis tournament for the last three years, raising funds for different Sunshine Coast charities each year.

Katie Rose Cottage, a Community Palliative Care Nursing service in Doonan, run by the Sunshine Coast Community Hospice Ltd was the chosen recipient for 2012. Volunteers and Registered Nurses at Katie Rose Cottage, a 6 bed facility, provides support care to terminally ill adults, children and their carers living on the Sunshine Coast, from Gympie to Caloundra and surrounding districts. The venue is a beautiful extension to a person’s home, fully equipped and adapted to provide high quality nursing support care to those unable to manage their final journey in their own home.

Debra Forbes, Chair of Fundraising with the Sunshine Coast Community Hospice, addressed the gathering, presenting an overview of Katie Rose Cottage which relies heavily on charity to fund their services and activities.  Everyone was extremely moved by Debra’s presentation and warmed by the knowledge that such a facility exists on the Sunshine Coast.

SCLMWTA Charity Chairperson, Carol Morris, in thanking Debra for her attendance and presentation, announced that over $500 proceeds from the Charity Day would be gifted to Katie Rose Cottage.

It must also be noted that a lot more money could have been raised if more teams in the association were represented and supported the Charity Tournament. Less than 40 ladies attended the AGM and tournament which is disappointing considering there are over 180 members of the association!

3 sets of tennis were enjoyed by the players. Prize winners on the day were:

Winner Div 1&2 – Aki Lepper prize was a cap from Dee South at Yandina

Winner Div 3 – Margaret Cawthorne prize was a cap from Dee South at Yandina

Lucky Door prize – Rosemary Collins who won a pair of Miglio ear rings from Linda Corbett

There were numerous other raffles and guessing competitions won by various people, many of whom come from Maroochydore tennis club and Witta – fitting considering the number of players from each club who supported the day.
