Sunshine Coast Ladies Midweek Tennis Association Inc

85yr Celebration and Members' Reunion at Glenview Mooloolah Tennis Club

24 May 2012 |

Our function held on Sunday 20th May was a great success.  We had 65 people turn up to celebrate the club’s milestone.

The guest speaker was Fay Colthorpe (nee Muller) who launched a book on the history of the tennis club. Fay played in the Mooloolah district in the 1940’s and entered into the tournaments held by the then Palmwoods and District Tennis Association. In 1946 she won the B Grade ladies singles at the age of 13 and in the following year won the Open ladies singles. Fay won many titles in Australia and in Europe and ended up playing at Wimbledon from 1953 to 1956. With her partner, Daphne Seeney they came runner-up in the Ladies Doubles in 1956. There were more interesting stories that she told us but one that comes to mind was that they had to go to Wimbledon by ship and it took 6 weeks. That would be unheard of in these days.

I wish to thank my hardworking committee for making this a well organised day. Also thanks to the Sunshine Coast Regional Council for the Heritage Grant we received to prepare and publish the book.

Books and stubby coolers are available for purchase at $5 each.  If anyone would like  any please contact Jenny 54969292.
