SCLMWTA representatives attend President's Brunch at Brisbane International

It was our pleasure to be able to attend the Annual Presidents Brunch at the Brisbane International Tennis tournament on 2 January 2012.  It was a wonderful opportunity for representatives of the Queensland Tennis community (150 of 215 Tennis clubs and associations in Qld were represented) to get together over a delicious brunch which was followed by a day of tennis action in Pat Rafter Arena.

During the brunch we were introduced to some of the team at TennisQueenslandwho outlined some of the programs which they run and assistance which can be given to clubs and affiliated bodies.

Of note this year there has been an enormous amount of effort and money devoted to assisting the rebuilding of flood affected tennis centres – not only inBrisbanebut also in smaller towns throughout the state. There is a new $5000 cash incentive prize each year for TQ affiliated clubs or organizations who have increased their TQ members throughout the previous year. The winner of this prize is drawn at the brunch each January. This year’s winners were Gordonvale tennis club and Gold Coast tennis.

The Brisbane International tournament has been upgraded to an official ATP and WTA event which will ensure that it will continue to attract the big names of tennis. As for the tennis – well we got to see Ana Ivanovich vs Tamira Paszek, Serena Williams vs Chanelle Scheepers  and Bernard Tomic vs Julien Benneteau ! All in all a pretty good day out!
