10 October 2016 | Emma Walter

ACT officials have been busy over the last few months, with many appearing at events across the globe.

Recent recipient of the 2016 Tennis ACT Official of the Year award, Lyn Hinds, was a line umpire at the recent Davis Cup tie in Sydney.

Emma Walter had the honour of being a line umpire at the 2016 US Open, including the Men’s Singles Final.

And one of Australia’s top officials, Myles Emery, was one of two Australians to be a line umpire at the 2016 Rakuten Japan Open, where Canberra’s Nick Kyrgios won the title on 10 October 2016.

The amazing achievements are a testament to the quality of officials Canberra has produced over a number of years.

Officiating Development Coordinator for NSW/ACT, Martin Oosthuysen, said Canberra has produced some top quality officials that are internationally recognised.

“Despite being one of the smallest based on numbers, the ACT produces top quality officials, as recognised by these international selections”, he said.

“It is an exciting time to be an official in the ACT with world class tennis coming later this year and in January 2017”.
