Canberra Velocity have rebounded to take a convincing 5-1 victory over the New Zealand Tuis to finish in equal 5th place at the Asia Pacific Tennis League (ATL) national final.

Velocity came out of the blocks fast, with Alex Nancarrow and Abbie Myers both taking the first sets quickly. Myers was able to close out her victory in straight sets with a 4-2, 4-2 victory over Abby Guthrie. Nancarrow was made to work a little harder in the second set, with Sally Peers taking it in a tiebreak. Nancarrow bounced back to win the 3rd without the loss of a game and put Velocity up 2-0. Tyra Calderwood then took to the court at the number 4 position. After losing the first set, she fought back to win the second 4-2. Her opponent Leela Beatie proved too strong in the 3rd to get the Tuis on the scoreboard. Alison Bai was up against Rosie Cheng at the No 2 spot and after a tight first set, dominated the tiebreak 5-0. She continued her good form in the 2nd set to put Velocity up 3 rubbers to 1 heading into the doubles. Bai has gone the entire season without losing a singles match for Velocity.

Velocity just needed to win 1 set in the doubles to clinch the victory. On the number 1 court the pairing of Bai and Calderwood took on Beatie and Guthrie, while Myers and Nancarrow played Peers and Cheng at the no 2 spot. Myers and Nancarrow were able to secure the first set 4-2, with Bai and Calderwood following suit minutes later. Despite having secured the overall win, Velocity was determined to finish strong, with Bai and Calderwood taking the second set 4-1. Things were a little closer in the other doubles, with the second set going to a tiebreak. Myers and Nancarrow took the tiebreak 5-2, with Velocity winning the match 5-1. The result saw Velocity finish in 5th position for the second year running.
