A focus for learning in Year 6 at Kaleen Primary School is leadership. At the beginning of term three, Year 6 students are aiming to initiate a program based on student leadership through physical education and peer mentoring. In groups, the students will be required to design, plan and implement an 8 week P.E program targeted at the fundamental motor skills for junior school students in which they will be responsible for teaching and leading.

On Wednesday 14th of May, Tennis ACT was fortunate enough to assist the Year 6 students with this exciting task of teaching and mentoring the younger students.

Throughout the day students participated in coaching clinics that provided exciting, engaging and beneficial modified activities. Students were given the opportunity to learn the essential skills for delivery Tennis in a modified environment. The year 6 students were actively involved in the instructional processes during activities and learnt essential leadership qualities from the coaches. The acquisition of these skills will be of great benefit in their future.

The day was a huge success for a variety of reasons as the students gained an important understanding for a variety of skill sets, deepened their understanding of the importance of planning and being organised, learned a variety of ways to demonstrate leadership and had a fun day participating in an active setting.
