By Anne Haycock

The Ladies year started with the usual Summer Pennant in which there was 2 divisions and some close results .The finals were held at Weston Creek on the 18th March and there were round robins for non-finalists. The usual bring a plate luncheon in beautiful weather allowed the ladies to show their culinary skills.
May Howard as usual was the best at No1; Helen Greenup pipped a few for No2 and Brenda Ford and Sharon Hill ran away with 3 and 4 respectively.
In Division1 the Ford team consisting of May Howard, Peta Hoff, Brenda Ford and Sharon Hill narrowly defeated the Le Bang team of Valerie Gavin, Judy Lebang, Leonie Southwell (with her left hand)and Elizabeth Cox 5–41  to 3–40 in a nail biter.
In Division 2 The Haycock Team( minus their namesake with a fetlock injury) consisted of Karen McLennan, Luana King, Leslie Winter and Maureen Lancaster defeated the Howe team of the ageless Joan Trounce at 1 and Helen Greenup, Julie Howe and Janette Grahame 6–43. To 2–28 in a match closer than the score indicated.
The round Robin winners were Hilary Brigden, Brenda Neal, Wendy Parker, Betty Smith, Ashlyn Farrelly and Karen Jamieson.

In April two of our regulars are turning 80. Joan Trounce and Audrey Wiggins are celebrating at Belwests after pennant at a bring a plate luncheon on the 29th April. All welcome. Both these ladies are fine examples of what staying at the game does to your health.

On 1 May at Belconnen and Melba Clubs we are having our annual Charity Day. There will be tennis followed by a sausage sizzle .The charity this year is Marymead and the cost for tennis and lunch $20. You may enter singularly or with a partner for Ladies Doubles, Mens Doubles or Mixed with Anne Haycock or Barbara McCluskey.
