Recently Devonport Tennis Club hosted a Tennis Gala Day, led by the club’s dedicated Head Coach, Pip Martin. The event saw enthusiastic participation from 36 students representing various schools across the region, with the aim of fostering young talent and promoting tennis at the grassroots level.

With the support of 11 trainee and junior coaches, the event focused on bridging the gap between school sports and club participation. This initiative aims to provide students with the chance to join their local club, overcoming barriers that might have previously hindered their participation.

Pip Martin emphasized the importance of such events in creating pathways for young athletes. “It was an absolutely amazing day of tennis among school. Players were super successful at improving, having fun, learning new skills and making new friends.” Martin said.

This event was supported by the Coach Support program, funded by the Australian Sports Commission Play Well Participation Grant Program.
