Coach Iris Bouwmeester
Coach: Iris Bouwmeester
Venue: Tennis World Launceston
A Tennis World Launceston Coach, Iris Bouwmeester currently coaches part time whilst completing a Bachelor of Exercise and Sport Science. Coaching for three years and having completed her Community Coaching Course, Iris coaches all levels of Hot Shots, as well as adult and private lessons. She enjoys the challenge of needing to be spontaneous and adapt in fast past environments, to best suit the needs of her clients. She is a positive role model to fellow young coaches and clients across the state.
“Being a tennis coach is one of the most rewarding things I have ever done, and I love being able to utilise my experience to bring the same passion and love for tennis to the individuals that I coach now that I was lucky enough to experience when I was in their position.”
Iris’ love for tennis started at a Hot Shots ‘Come and Try’ day and she went on to continue playing throughout her childhood and teenage years, representing Tasmania in the Under 18s Pizzey Cup team twice in Perth and Canberra.
“To have the opportunity to play within a team environment in a sport that is primarily very individual was an opportunity that I loved as it gave me an even greater purpose when I stepped out on that court in a shirt with Tassie on my back.”
Iris has taken advantage of many off court tennis opportunities. She is a qualified court supervisor and was a ball kid at several Hobart International tournaments. She has also completed Tennis Australia’s Future Leaders program, Learn 2 Lead course and is currently completing the Women Leaders in Tennis course. Iris’ advice for people interested in coaching, or anything else tennis related is simple – give it a go!
“If you love it and are excited at the thought of being given the opportunity to share your expertise and love for the sport then give it a crack and see what happens, you’ll never know whether you’ll love it or where it could take you unless you give it a go.”
Iris is very active and loves the outdoors. She has played many other sports including football, soccer and water polo and recently completed the Overland Track. When she’s not outside being active, she enjoys listening to podcasts about sport and is currently working on perfecting her coffee art skills.
