67-year-old Tasmanian, Stephen Dance has been selected to represent Australia at the 2023 ITF World Tennis Masters Tour Team Championships, alongside fellow Australians Wayne Pascoe (NSW), Glenn Busby (Captain) (VIC) and Mike Ford (QLD) to see if they can take home the Britannia Cup for Australia for a second year in a row.

Dance was in the winning team for the 65+ men’s age group last year at the 2022 ITF World Team Championships in Florida, USA, where they beat the USA team to claim the Britannia Cup for Australia.

“It’s a great honour to be part of the Australian team again for this year’s world titles in Majorca. We aim to defend our world title from Florida last year but there will be fierce competition from Spain, France, Germany and the USA,” Dance said.

“We’re also lucky enough here in Tasmania to be host to the Australian Seniors Championships in January next year, which will see more than 1,000 tennis players from across Australia and overseas competing in the teams or individual event.”

Tennis Tasmania is proud to host the 2024 Australian Seniors Championships in January with the Teams Carnival being held from Sunday 14 to Friday, 19 January, followed by the ITF MT1000 Individual Championships from Sunday 21 to Friday, 26 January.

“The last time Tasmania played host to the seniors championships was in 2014 and players have been eager to return ever since,” 2024 Australian Seniors Championships Organiser, Hannah Sneath said.

“It’s going to be a great time of summer tennis in Hobart, with time to enjoy the social aspect of the event as well as entering as part of a team.

“We’re keen to see as many 30+ Tasmanians getting a team of friends together as well and enjoying this great event that’s taking place across 10 tennis clubs in the south of Tasmania. We look forward to welcoming all participants and attendees to Tasmania,” she said.

Supported by the Tasmanian Government through Events Tasmania, the Australian Seniors Championships will immediately follow the Hobart International.

“The Tasmanian Government is proud to be supporting the Australian Seniors Tennis Championship in 2024”, Minister for Stadia and Events, Nic Street said.

“The event, which directly follows the Hobart International, will see more than 1,000 people travelling to Tasmania next January to experience what the State has to offer and I look forward to welcoming them.”
