Junior players will have the chance to showcase their skills on the courts in December following the announcement of the inaugural Tasmanian UTR Junior State Championships.

The event will take place at the Domain Tennis Centre across two long weekends, having been created to replace the December Showdown National Championships that will not be taking place in 2020 due to COVID-19.

“We’re excited to be running this event for the first time,” Tournament Coordinator Matthew Scott said.

“It will give the top juniors in Tasmania an opportunity to showcase their talent and kick start the summer on a strong note, with similar events running concurrently all around Australia.”

“The Championships will be split into two events, with the 12/u & 16/u events being played first, followed by the 14/u & 18/u events being played in the second week.”

“There will be an on-site player dinner to celebrate the event, along with health and wellbeing activities.”

All entrants are guaranteed to play at least three singles matches , with the opportunity to play up to five matches pending round robin group results.
