22 August 2013 | Tennis Tasmania

On a gorgeous winters day at the picturesque Domain Tennis Centre round two of the successful Tasmanian Tennis League (TTL) South Pilot was completed in front of a large audience.

Both teams kicked off action simultaneously with the Demons prevailing in a classic over the Devils whilst the Sharks won the battle of the undefeated teams over the hungry Tigers.

Singles action starting proceedings with both teams hitting the court. Setting a tone for the remainder of the day all matches were tied up after singles action with only a few games separating both teams. For the Men Richard Wynwood (Demons) and Rohan Kerr (Sharks) were in scintillating form from the outset not giving their respective opponents a look in during the entire match whilst on the women’s side  Catherine Krueger (Tigers) and Phoebe Davis (Devils) playing her first match proved too much for their opposition with convincing victories.

With no clear advantage over both matches doubles action was ready to play. Remarkably, teams were again unable to break away from one another as matches were again split. Carrying on his singles form Richard Wynwood and Remy Lynch (Demons) needed a tie break to squeak past Peter Leary and Matthew Harris (Devils) 8-7 whilst the women’s side the standout team of Phoebe Davis and Eliane Fader (Devils) prevailed in a tight affair over Johanna Jones and Sanyukta Singh (Demons).

With both matches coming down to the ever important mixed doubles all four teams were on the brink. With some phenomenal play and closeness it was the Sharks though Kathryn Easther and Rohan Kerr who prevailed in a nail biter over Catherine Krueger and Shaun Thomas (Tigers) 8-6 ensuring a hard fought four game win over the desperate South Tigers. Nobody could write the script better than the finale between the Demons and the Devils with both teams desperate to ensure their first victory of the competition. Remarkably after the mixed action where Matthew Harris and Eliane Fader won a tie break to deadlock the scores at 48-all it was decided to play a super tie break to determine the winner of the tie. Staying perfect on the day it was Richard Wynwood who paired Sanyukta Singh to defeat Peter Leary and Eliane Fader by 10-7 in the first ever walk off extra time victory.

After these outstanding results where over the two matches there was a four game differential all players stayed around and shared a BBQ with nibbles. All matches were well attended providing a great atmosphere for players.

To keep players fighting out every point we have a prize available for the player in the TTL pilot who have the best games won vs games lost differential. Currently youngsters Catherine Krueger and Jessica Fowler lead the way over the experienced Rohan Kerr. To view the full list please click here.
