Whilst it seems a long way off, preparations are already underway for the Tennis Seniors’ Teams Carnival and Individual Championships to be held in Hobart in January 2014. Starting the day after the Hobart International concludes, the events promise to bring a multitude of visitors to the state, from around the globe. It will be a crazily busy period, but wow, what an opportunity for us to showcase our state and welcome players both on and off the court.
So we are already working with various clubs in the south of the state in an effort to ensure all things run smoothly and effectively. Players will be hitting courts at a various venues due to the numbers expected (potentially 120 teams of 6 players in each)! No doubt over the next few months we will hear the whirr of the hedgetrimmer, the bang of a hammer, and a steady flow of information as clubs prepare to present their venue in its best outfit! It’s a big commitment, but the show of hands already instils great confidence in the club teamwork emerging.
The events will run from 12 – 24 January, split into the Teams Carnival (12-17 January) and the Individual Championships (19-24 January). Here is a fabulous chance to visit Hobart and watch some sensational tennis. If you plan to drop in, please be sure to organise some accommodation now as many places are already booked out! If you do visit, and you are representing your club (as an avid spectator!), please call into the Tennis Tasmania office to introduce yourself….that way when I visit your club down the track, I will know who to look out for!!
Oh, and don’t forget if you are keen to participate as a player, make sure you register your interest in the first instance, with Tennis Tasmania. Entry forms will be made available through Tennis Seniors Australia in due course.
