The 2013 Medibank Junior Development Series (MJDS) is in full swing with four tournaments in the books in 2013. The points race for the End of Year Championships is starting to heat up with only a few points separating the leaders from the chasing group.

In the 9/U Boys Singles young gun Joseph Kelly (Hobart) leads the points race with Jake Elmer (Relbia) hot on his heels. In the 11/U Boys Jed Plunkett-Smith (Hobart) and Samuel Edgar (West Hobart) lead the pack with each boy playing two tournaments respectively. The girls are well represented in the 11/U race with sisters Arnaka and Tully Bourn (Burnie) leading the way in a family affair.

The 13/U boys singles race is definitely the most competitive so far with a large mass of numbers trying to eye a Foundation Cup playoff selection. Currently only a few points separate the top three players with Oscar Targett (Hobart) narrowly leading James Nation (Evandale) and Jordyn Petryk (Hobart). In the 13/U Girls which is also for Foundation Cup 2014 selection its an all Launceston affair with Chelsea Leggett, Stacey Norton-Smith and Meg Radford leading the pack in a group which is wide open.

Lastly in the 15/U Boys Turners Beach brothers Joab and Daniel Littler are leading the way in what again is a wide open race.

We at Tennis Tasmania would like to thanks and congratulate Geilston Bay TC, St Therese’s TC, Newstead TC and Burnie TC on holding such a successful series. Currently the Newstead MJDS leads participation with 90 players entered in this tournament.

We would like to encourage all players to get involved and enter a Medibank JDS tournament as they are a great foundation to begin your tennis tournament career.

Lastly the next Medibank JDS tournament is in Glenorchy over the May 4-5 weekend and you can still enter online by clicking here
