Tournament Director Greg Jack and mens singles champion Ken ho

Launceston’s Ken Ho and Hobart’s Alyssa Hibberd have taken out the 2010 Clarence Open Men’s and Women’s Singles Titles over the weekend.

In a tournament that saw record numbers and beautiful weather Ho and Hibberd both fought their way through strong draws to win the event.  Ho, the tournaments number 2 seed had to battle through several tough matches on his way to the final, including a 3 set marathon against Harry Bourchier that ended with Ho winning the third set in a long tie break.  In the final Ho faced the man who had defeated him just a month before in the final of the Cygnet Open, the number 1 seed, Richard Wynwood. At Clarence though it was a different story with Ho taking the match, and the tournament 6-3 6-3.

Hibberd, the number 1 seed in the women’s draw found things a bit easier over the weekend dropping only 2 games on her way to meeting Georgie Carswell in the final of the women’s draw. It was a hard fought encounter but Hibberd managed to go a break up in each set to win 6-3 6-3.

Ho and Hibberd also found success in the men’s and women’s doubles draw.  Ho and Launceston’s Rory De Boer defeated Brandon Rodgers and Stuart Armstrong in the final of the Men’s Doubles 6-2 7-5. While Hibberd teamed up with Hobart’s Janaya Smith to defeat Kate Wigan and Chantel Jamieson 6-0 6-2 in the Women’s Doubles final.

Tournament organisers were thrilled with the way the tournament went, particularly with the record participation numbers. Organisers are looking forward to next years Clarence Open and are hoping to see all the players back again.
